Dorothy Baines Dennis

Mrs. Dorothy Baines Dennis (affectionately called “Ma Ma” by family and friends) was born on September 22, 1934 in Putnam County, Eatonton, Georgia to Randall and Lillie Farley Baines who both preceded her in death.

On August 14, 1949 Dorothy gave her life to Christ and united with Henderson Grove Baptist Church.  There she served faithfully for 70 years, even as her health started to decline.  She first served on the Ushers’ Board, and later on the Mothers’ Board, as well as various other auxiliaries of the Church.

Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony in 1952 to Robert “June” Dennis.  To this union seven children were born:  Raymond “Bruh”, Lee, Larry, Doll, Rob, Sheila, and Curt.

Dorothy was the eighth of nine children. She attended the public schools System of Putnam County, Georgia and graduated from Eatonton Color High School.  She gained employment at Eatonton Manufactory and Enterprise Aluminum of Eatonton GA during her early years.  Later she worked as a housekeeper for the Fierman’s of Madison Ga.  She was a devoted big ma.  Dorothy enjoyed baking sweet potato pies, working in her flower bed, and spending time with family.

On Friday, January 1, 2021 the Dennis/Baines families were broken when God removed our blessed “Ma Ma” from our daily lives.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “June” Dennis; one son, Raymond Dennis; five sisters:  Annie Pearl Roman, Mary Lizzie Broadnax, Mammie Monday, Willie “Maude” Dennis, and Mattie B Dennis; one brother, Joseph Baines two grandchildren: Andreas Dennis and Shantera Bly.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: five sons: Robert Lee Dennis, Larry Leon Dennis, Aldophus Dennis Sr. (Mozelle), Robbie Dennis (Cheryl), Curtis Lemar Dennis. One daughter: Sheila Diane Jackson; one brother: Randall Baines Sr. ; one sister: Gladys Culp; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews;  a host of other family members and friends. SERVANT OF GOD WELL DONE.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at East Eatonton Cemetery, 129 Hogan Boulevard, Eatonton, GA 31024, 12:00 PM.  Pastor Willie C. Jones Sr. will be the officiating. Viewing will take place at the Henderson Grove Baptist Church 1150 Madison Road Eatonton, GA from 3:00pm-4:00pm; and at Putnam Memorial Funeral Home from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.  Putnam Memorial Funeral Home promotes adherence to the CDC protocol.
