James David Mathis

JAMES DAVID MATHIS, son of Mr. James Curtis Mathis and Mrs. Elnora Culp Mathis passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021.  He was born on October 11, 1982 in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia.

Being a lifelong resident of the county, he attended school in Eatonton and ended his education at Putnam County High School.  A young man and full of life, he enjoyed tinkering on things and working in the fresh air.  He loved the outdoors and working with his hands.  He would help anyone that he could, but his passion was socializing and having a good time with friends.  In addition, James dearly loved taking care of his Mom and made sure that she had what she needed.

Because he loved working so much, he had several jobs in his lifetime, but the two that he enjoyed most were Georgia Pacific and Ritz Carlton.  He made many friends there and was an asset to his job.  Later, an injury caused him to leave the work force.

Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Eris and Essie Mae Culp; paternal grandparents: Lane and Mary F. Mathis; his sister: Janetta Mathis; uncles: Willie and Larry Culp, Otis and Willie Mathis, and Columbus Farley.

Left to cherish fond memories are: his mother Elnora Mathis, his father: James Curtis Mathis (Louella); children: Jaleen, Jordan, Jalayla, Leelyn, Taylor and Leevi Mathis; sister: Krystal Andrews (Stanley); brothers: Dwayne Eustace Mathis, DeTravis Coney (Akeba), Kendrick Humphries; loving nephews: Davion Crutchfield and Stanlen Andrews; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; his special friends: David Crutchfield, Cecil Farley, Tommy Crutchfield, Clyde Parham, Bobby Monts, Willie “BB” Bullard, and Carlos Parra.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2021, 12:00PM at Putnam Memorial Funeral Home, 105 Agnes Street, Eatonton, Georgia.  The viewing will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home.  Evangelist Thedoria Sneed will be the Eulogist. Putnam Memorial Funeral Home promotes adherence to the CDC protocol.  Please wear mask and social distance.
